We are a Guest House that offers much more, our aim is to give a high quality service exceeding your expectations, we like our guests to feel at home, to relax and unwind in our comfortable and spacious living room. In the summer months sunlight fills the room whilst in the winter a roaring fire to snuggle by adds to the atmosphere. Lakeview is an imposing Edwardian house situated in the Lakeland village of Portinscale. Enjoying an elevated south facing position, it offers views of lakes and fells. Three comfortably furnished bedrooms offer En-Suite facilities. Portinscale is approximately one mile west of the market town of Keswick, only a 15 minute easy walk into Keswick or 5 minute drive. Alternatively a half mile walk will take you to the nearest jetty where regular launches will take you around Lake Derwentwater. There is a sailing club, a great local pub (the Farmers Arms) and endless opportunities for walks and cycle rides, but the loveliest thing about Portinscale is its peace and quiet.

Owned by Stuart and Catherine Muir a husband and wife team with a combined experience of 48 years in hospitality. Stuart has a love of cycling and walking and would gladly arrange mountain bike and walking boot hire along with route maps for you. Catherine is a qualified chef with experience of working in hotels with a 2 and 3 rosette rating.

Lakeview operates a no smoking policy throughout.

Sitting Room

One of the many features of Lakeview an unspoilt house of 1906 is its period fireplaces. After a day of walking or touring the sitting room offers relaxation in front of an open fire where you can enjoy a pot of tea and some home baking whilst browsing through our Lakeland maps, books or magazines. A welcome tray will be provided upon arrival.

Location

LAKEVIEW is situated in the village of Portinscale which is approximately one mile west of the market town of Keswick, only a 15 minute easy walk into Keswick or 5 minute drive.

From the M6 motorway: Take Junction 41 (Penrith) and head on the A66 towards Keswick and West Cumbria. Go past the first turning for Keswick and straight over the roundabout. Take the second turning on your left signed for Portinscale. LAKEVIEW is 200 yards on the left after the Farmers Arms.

Virgin trains call at Penrith then catch a bus to Keswick.

Dining

A Three Course Dinner is available at a cost of £23.00 per person and is served at 7:00pm from a daily selected menu.

Catherine has been a professional Chef for the last 20 years, delighting customers at some of the best hotels in the Lake District. Catherine will use the freshest local and seasonal ingredients available to create delicious memorable dishes. Her specialties include delicious focaccia, pugliese (Italian olive bread) and some traditional wholemeal breads, also home made preserves and petit fours. Remember to leave room for desert as Catherine is renowned for her deserts!

Special dietary or vegetarian requirements can be catered for by prior arrangement.

Treats

Portinscale is a wonderful centre from which to enjoy Keswick and its surrounding valleys. Newlands and Borrowdale both lead to the door of "Lakeview" and so numerous walks of varying demands are readily available.

Whether it be a pre-dinner amble around the fields and hedgerows of Ullock and Little Braithwaite or a full day's romp of The Coledale Horseshoe it may not be necessary to put the keys in the ignition.

Stroll down to Nichol End Marina where it is possible to hire canoes windsurfers or sailing boats or board the launch and cruise Derwentwater. Disembark at Lodore and climb the Falls before walking via Ashness Bridge to the beautiful hamlet and tarn of Watendlath. Contact Stan Edmondson on 01768777293 to fish the stocked tarn for Borrowdale Trout from boat or bank.

Explore the tranquil valleys of Troutdale, Langstrath or Seathwaite. Honisters heights offer adventures in www.honister-slate-mine.co.uk with daily guided tours into the depths of a working slate mine.

Busses run regularly along the valley either back to Portinscale, Keswick or over Honister and through Buttermere, Lorton and Whinlatter Pass.

Portinscale lies on the Coast 2 Coast route and Lakeview offers secure cycle storage, cleaning and maintenance facilities to C2C,ers and mountain bikers.
